Our Mission

The mission of Catskill Fitness is to strive for sustainable health and fitness of the people, wildlife, and the overall environment of the Catskill Park. We aim to accomplish this by establishing sustainable fitness facilities to increase physical activity and exercise and using research and field studies to promote and guide responsible and sustainable outdoor sports and recreation. All together, enhancing local communities' health and fitness and improving the engagement and knowledge of our surroundings. The nature and wildness of the Catskills have intrinsic and social value. The ecosystems of the Catskills matter, and so do the human experiences that take place there. Healthy and fit communities in the Catskills require modern fitness facilities, research, public outreach, and funding.

What is One Health?

A typical One Health organization would jointly address human, animal, and ecosystem health through a multidisciplinary approach. A One Health process typically involves the bringing together of veterinarians, medical personnel, public health professionals, and environmentalists/conservationists. At Catskill Fitness, we are modifying a traditional One Health approach. Instead, we focus on human health and fitness and will be combining wildlife (not agriculture livestock) with ecosystem health, and lastly, the relationship both of these have with outdoor recreation. There are no healthy Catskill communities without healthy Catskill Mountains.
