Jimmy Lawrence

Executive Director - Adjunct Professor - Sports and Exercise Scientisit - Conservation Biologist

Jimmy was a former sponsored alpine ski racer with an NCAA Division I scholarship; he raced cross-country mountain bikes at the professional level and won trail running races around the world (including the Twin Lakes Marathon in Wanaka, New Zealand).

 

 Jimmy has a bachelor's degree in sports science from Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus) and a master's degree in clinical exercise science from the Univerity of Potsdam (Potsdam, Germany). Jimmy was a doctoral candidate and research assistant for over three years, researching how exercise improves depressive symptoms in older adults and people living with HIV. He also researched the impact of different exercise intensities on DNA damage and the group dynamics and performance of ultra-endurance athletes. His research has recently involved artificial intelligence and augmented reality in sports medicine and education. You can view his research here.

 

Besides running Catskill Fitness, Jimmy also works as an adjunct professor of health and exercise science at Mercer County Community College. He is currently writing a thesis for a second master's degree in wildlife conservation with a concentration in wildlife biology from Unity College. His research involves Bicknell's thrush occupancy models and the impact of recreation in the Catskill High Peaks.
